How much time do you actually waste just scrolling through social media and WhatsApp every day without any profit? I came to realize that, the process of wasting your life is a creep and doesn’t happen overnight, but the results are devastating.
12 Signs you’re wasting your life and how to fix it.
1. You have no (real) ambition
Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba said that ‘You are poor because you have no ambition’. (Real) ambition is a realistic, specific and meaningful goal that you set and plan to accomplish within a specific time. If you have none, nothing really drive you to do something that leads you towards that ambition and you end up doing daily, monotonous, programmed steps to survive yet another day. Wake up!
2. You’re always chasing the latest toy
Can’t live without that latest cell phone, luxury car, or a new line of clothes that just came out? We all have our weaknesses. But if you’re always chasing after material things, you should ask yourself why.
3. You spend too much time doing things you shouldn’t be doing
Video games, Reality TV show, Surfing the internet, Drinking and smoking too much. And the list goes on. Take a serious look at your life.
Where and who do you spend the majority of your time with? Is it leading to a better life? Is it laying the foundation for a bright future? If not, then you need to reevaluate your routine activities and make changes.
4. You always have a reason not to take action
Isn’t it funny how some people say they want something, but never actually take ACTION to make it happen? Nothing happens on its own. Nothing changes if you change nothing. Do not sabotage their own plans by giving an endless list of excuses why it wouldn’t work.
5. You often find yourself reliving the past
Ah, the “good old days”. You may have heard your elders use such language. Your elders may not be going on new adventures as often as they did in the past, but what about you?
Are you really content with spending your working hours reliving the good old days while others actually go and live new adventures?
6. You let others tell you how to live
Majority of people will come in your life who try to tell you how to live your life and you follow them. It’s your life and you only get one chance to live, so don’t waste it by living dependently on the commands of others.
7. You find yourself complaining a lot
Do you complain about your job, your boss, your salary, your neighbors or your spouse? If you do, then you are doing nothing but exuding negative energy.
Negativity doesn’t change things. It keeps you stuck. So change your thoughts and talk about what you appreciate about your life, not what you don’t like.
8. You spend too much time with people who don’t contribute to your growth
It’s easy to get stuck hanging out with people who are not making you feel like a better person. But if you keep doing that, then you will stay stagnant or get pulled down with them. I like to call them “Energy Vampires.” They suck the life out of you and give you nothing positive in return. Instead, go find growth-oriented people to be around.
9. You’re addicted to your phone
Sure, cell phones are super cool gadgets that can leave us entranced when we use them. While that’s fun, think about all the time you are wasting with your phone. Stop wasting your life with your cell phone.
10. You spend money on things that don’t matter
There is a difference between a “need” and a “want.” I’m sure we all learned that in kindergarten. However, in today’s society, we have blurred the lines quite a bit (see #9… the cell phone). In fact, I know people who can’t pay their rent, but still, have the fanciest gadgets on the planet.
11. You lie to people about yourself
You are lying to people about yourself because you think that they will like you better if you pretend to be more social, or more experienced, or more cultured.
12. Believing there is only one person out there for You
You fall in love and believe that you have found the one. Things go wrong and you are heartbroken. You don’t know what to do with yourself and instead of moving on with your life, you focus on that “one that got away.” If she/he got away, then let them go away. There are plenty of fish in the sea and believe me, they have more than enough love to go around.
